FAQ's

why a perspex frame?

On an aesthetic level, I designed this frame because I know how coloured frames can limit your decision about where to place an artwork in your home.  The perspex box frame just lets the artwork shine and looks wonderful in both a contemporary and traditional interior.

On a functional level, the properties of perspex provide an impressive 98% UV protection, which means the silk scarf will not fade.  As the frame is open at the back, it allows the silk and tweed to breathe whilst hanging on the wall.  It’s win win all round!

Why are there little bubbles on the edges of my frame?

Perspex is an incredible material for display purposes and is an excellent way to stop art work from yellowing or fading. During the manufacturing process, perspex sheets may contain the odd air bubble but these would only be seen on the joints of the box frame. It just means each and every frame has its own character and is a one off!

why yorkshire tweed?

Being a British designer, I am passionate about supporting British suppliers.  The tweed I use comes from a family run mill in Yorkshire and the colour palettes from their collections are strongly influenced by the beauty of the moors and nature around them.  It’s a happy synergy between my work and theirs.

can i use another fabric for the mount?

I have also used a cotton/linen and wool for the mount but I am always happy to find alternative fabric (and British where possible) should you not want to have the Tweed.  Please contact me and we can work something out.

why digital printing?

Printing has come a long way since I graduated with my degree in printed textiles.  I use leading UK printers because they successfully capture my hand rendered work with the finest detail and colour accuracy.  Their print quality is exceptional, using their own colour science and beautiful fabrics.  It’s great to be working with a British company too.

can i hang my artwork anywhere?

Even though both the perspex box frames and non reflective art glass I have used on most of my original artwork provide great UV protection, it is generally considered best not to hang your artwork in direct sunlight or in an area with excessive moisture.

why a giclee print?

A Giclee print is the best way to replicate an original artwork.  This fine art digital print combines pigment based inks with the highest quality archival paper.  It means the print has light fastness and stability and is exceptionally accurate regarding colour.
